35-MHz 64-Element 2-2 Composite Linear Array for Ophthalmic Imaging

This 64-element linear array operates at 35 MHz for high-resolution ophthalmic imaging. The array uses a 2-2 piezo-composite fabricated by mechanical dicing of bulk Navy Type VI PZT with 14 µm kerfs filled with Al₂O₃-loaded epoxy. Elements are spaced at 50 µm pitch (1.2λ) with 3 mm elevation aperture and cylindrical epoxy lens focused at 10 mm. A 75 Ω coaxial cable provides impedance matching to 50 Ω electronics. Measured bandwidth averages 55%, insertion loss is 22.8 dB, and crosstalk is < −24 dB. Synthetic aperture imaging of a wire phantom demonstrates 42 µm axial and 95 µm lateral resolution.
